The first official visit of the Charge d’affaires (ad interim) of the Embassy of Libya in Bulgaria, Issa Ashur, to a Bulgarian institution has taken place at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).
Ambassador Ashur met the president of BCCI Tsvetan Simeonov. The honorary consul of Jordan to Bulgaria, Dr Hassan Barmaui, was also present at the meeting.
Tsvetan Simeonov presented his vision for wider economic co-operation with Libya, stressing that BCCI and Bulgaria support the democratic development of Libya.
Ambassador Ashur outlined events of the past few months, noting that after eight months of war the entire infrastructure of Libya had been destroyed. The country needs to reconstruct its roads, hospitals, schools, railroads and airports and in order to do this it needs assistance from its foreign partners, including Bulgaria.
Initiatives to promote bilateral economic co-operation were discussed as well as the upcoming visit to Bulgaria of the president of the federation of chambers of commerce, industry and crafts in Libya, together with businessmen. These visits are expected to take place in the second half of January. A draft of c-operation agreement between BCCI and the Federation was also presented.
In conclusion, the President of BCCI outlined the sectors of interest to Bulgarian companies – construction, agriculture, trade and tourism.
